Gender study

Scientific study on the role of gender in substance use

A study is currently being carried out into the role of gender and diversity in the use of and attitudes towards psychoactive substances. The aim is to understand how harm reduction services can better cater for all people who use such substances.

How does the study work?

The study involves an interview lasting approximately 60 minutes. The discussion will focus on personal experiences of substance use, ways of obtaining substances (in person, online and otherwise); gender, identity and risk-reduction strategies; and the role of support services.

Why take part?

Your perspective helps us to better understand the experiences of women and genderqueer people and to tailor support services more effectively to their needs.

Can I take part? Yes, if you....

  • ...describe yourself as a woman and/or genderqueer (e.g. non-binary)
  • ...are at least 16 years old
  • ...live in Vienna or the surrounding area
  • ...have experience with psychoactive substances

Who is behind the project?

The study is organised by Dr Meropi Tzanetakis carried out by the Vienna University of Economics and Business.
