What is checkit! peers?

What is checkit! peers?

Checkit! peers is an addiction prevention peer project, in which trained peers talk to young people aged between 15 and 25 about consumption and substances. The talks are primarily aimed at supporting adolescents and young adults in risk-conscious consumption and encouraging them to reflect on their consumption - always orientated towards the needs and experiences of the target group.

The checkit! peers work on an outreach basis and are out and about where young people are - in parks, at festivals or elsewhere in Vienna's nightlife. Our peers are themselves between 18 and 25 years old, know the party and nightlife scene and meet young people at eye level.

The aims of the checkit! peers are, to encourage young people to reflect on their own consumer behaviour, to inform them about low-risk consumption if necessary and to reduce their fear of contacting advice centres so that they can seek support if necessary.

Our peers have a consumer-accepting attitude and work on the basis of facts and knowledge. All discussions are anonymous, voluntary and confidential.

Peers are involved in public places where young people spend time in Vienna's nightlife, such as in parks or on the Danube Island. You can also find our peers at various events, that attract a young audience in particular, such as 16+ events in clubs, public school balls or fairs.
